Man & Monarch
Schönbrunn Palace
The focus of the exhibition at Schönbrunn Palace is on Franz Joseph as an individual and as a ruler, exploring his personality, ancestors and descendants, childhood, education and the crucial events in his life. The displays in the temporary exhibition rooms on the ground floor of the palace, which are being opened for the first time in their entirety for this exhibition, illustrate his ascent to the throne in 1848, his betrothal and marriage to Princess Elisabeth in Bavaria – better known as Sisi – as well as the Compromise with Hungary and its consequences.
Schönbrunn Palace: approx. 680 m² with approx. 280 exhibits
